Private scholarships play an important role in addressing student debt. They should not be undermined.

The #HandsOffMyScholarship campaign is a student-led movement to address college affordability and college access by working to eliminate the practice of scholarship displacement. 

Scholarship displacement is a practice in which many colleges and universities decrease a student's institutional-based aid when that student receives a private scholarship. While some schools are better than others in avoiding this practice, current federal regulations  could be improved to foster a more uniform and collaborative public-private partnership for corporate and non profit scholarship providers, students, as well as colleges and universities.
